Our Process
NAA mines sand from the Ambrose Federal Navigation Channel, a naturally replenishing source in the lower New York Bay. Our process begins with our dredge, Eleanor, mining and sizing virgin source aggregates. The Ambrose Channel’s clean sands have a long history of successful use in the tri-state area. Our environmentally friendly process avoids the erosion and destruction of habitat caused by traditional sand mining, while ensuring that the Ambrose Channel remains navigable without relying on government funding for maintenance. NAA is permitted by both the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and United States Army Corps of Engineers to mine 2-milion cubic yards annually from the Ambrose Channel.
Our ocean mined sand is transported to our Perth Amboy facility to be processed at our new state-of-the-art plant. The clean sands are drawn into the process stream and conveyed to specialized heavy duty wet screens, blending and mixing stations, rinsing areas and finally stockpiled over two reclaim tunnels and finished product load out areas. Safety is a priority, and MSHA safety standards are an integral part of our operations.
Our logistics team works with our clients to coordinate delivery by land and water. With our dedicated fleet of sand scows and tugs we can deliver large quantities of material by water, reaching sites that are underserved by traditional land transportation networks. This method of delivery is a greener alternative, taking advantage of economies of scale and easing congestion by taking trucks off the roadways. Additionally, we can provide unloading services and mobile processing equipment for a seamless loadout at any site.
